Q:Are gas stoves or electric stoves more common in Taiwan’s kitchens?
A:Gas stoves are more common.
- According to statistics from the Taipei City Department of Industrial Development at the end of 2024, there are four gas companies operating within Taipei City, and the natural gas supply coverage rate has reached 68.9% of all housing units.
- Taiwanese people are accustomed to using gas stoves for stir-frying and deep-frying with high heat, which is less convenient to do on electric stoves. Some IH stoves also require special cookware.

- In many apartment buildings, especially where most units are small studio-type apartments, kitchens often use electric stoves instead of gas stoves. Because of limited space and safety concerns about gas ventilation, such buildings usually do not install gas pipelines.

- In hillside villa areas such as Yangmingshan in Shilin District and the mountain areas of Beitou District, it is difficult and costly to apply for gas pipeline connections, so most of these homes do not have natural gas supply. Their kitchens use gas cylinders instead.
