Voltage for Electric Appliances

Probably the most asked questions from our tenants, be cautious of the following if you want your appliances to work properly!

  1. Taiwan's standard voltage is 110V, and the power frequency is 60Hz.
  2. The voltage for heating and air conditioning units is often 220/240V, 60Hz.
  3. Wall outlets in Taiwan, similar to those in the USA, are mostly two-prong (type A) or three-prong (type B).
  4. If the wall outlet is a two-prong, one can use a three-prong adapter to use appliances brought from overseas.
  5. If you come from a country with a voltage of 220/240V and a frequency of 50Hz, some of your appliances may not work.
  6. Appliances that require 50Hz will need a frequency converter to change the power frequency to 60Hz in order to be used. However, frequency converters are generally expensive and hard to obtain.
  7. Before using your appliances, check the label to see if they are compatible with 60Hz.
  8. Small appliances such as mobile phones and laptops can usually operate on either 110V or 220/240V and at either 50/60Hz.
  9. These appliances can be plugged directly into a 220/240V outlet, a three-prong outlet, or used with a transformer (110V/240V), but be aware that some transformers may overheat.
  10. Transformers are not only easy to obtain and inexpensive, most can be directly plugged into a 110V two-prong wall outlet.
  11. Some appliances have dual voltage capability, and the required voltage setting can usually be found on the product's label or in its specifications.
